New Google additions: Walking forever and a possible SecondLife rival?

August 14th, 2008

First off: Walking directions!

I already new about the street view on maps.google.com, but I just noticed that there was a walking version of the search. So, I decided to see how long it would take me to go to San Diego and hang out…this is what I got! To say the least Forrest Gump is a champ for running something similar to this. Anyway, on to the next thing I found.

Secondly: Lively by Google

Wow, this looks like some good competition to Second Life.  I haven’t used SecondLife yet, but I know that there is a lot of money to be had online in that game.  I have heard of several people getting big deals for designs and things like that.  Not to mention the many corporations who have a SecondLife presence.   Anyway, I just started messing with this thing, but it was too intriguing to not try it out and write something about it.  You can create your own rooms, I created one for ColdFusion and Flex developers, and you can design the room just like SecondLife.  I even see places where you can make morey off this thing by creating content and selling it through Google.  I need to check out the API on this thing, if there is one, it could be really cool for Podcast and YouTube casts.  Anyway, check it out…you can visit me and my company.
