Is college basketball rigged??

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that college basketball is rigged. I don’t watch a lot of basketball, but I like to watch the final four and see what’s going on. Well, I have watched for the past two years and I have noticed something a little odd. The Florida Gators are pretty good, however they get a lot of interesting calls going their way. I noticed the same thing in football the way the Patriots got certain calls at key points in the game.

Last year I noticed Joakim Noah hack and beat up the Bruins players and never got called on it. I thought it was really odd when they called every tap, brush and bump the Bruins committed. It was about the half-way point of the second half that I realized that college basketball was a farce. I haven’t seen a one-sided officiating job before that game…and that includes the Patriots games.

Okay, fast-forward to this year’s game, I saw better officiating but not by much. Notice this picture, one of the many reach in fouls Brewer pulled out during the game without being called. However, anytime the Ohio State boys put their hand near the Gator’s basketball they got called. Not to mention the foul on a three point shot where the defender would’ve had to go through a screening defender and then two feet to get to the shooter. I laughed a little when they called that because I knew then that the refs had taken over the game.

Now I know that I sound like a Gator hater, but honestly I could care less. I don’t really care who wins in college sports because it is a lesser product all around. Professional sports are more appealing to me, but I still would rather see a fair game being called. I don’t know how a ref can be so blatant about how they call a game. It was almost apparent how much they were paid! Anyway, I still have the opinion that basketball is fun to play and boring to watch. College basketball is more adrenaline charged than it’s professional counterpart, but it’s still pathetic to watch. Better luck next year college basketball players.
