Joomla + GoDaddy = FUBAR!

June 3rd, 2008

I spent better half of the day playing around with Joomla configs as I tried to get a client’s site up today.  All I can say is that there is nothing really wrong with Joomla as a CMS, but when coupled with GoDaddy it can be a pain.  For the most part everything worked fine until I decided to add search engine friendly URLs.  Once I did that I launched myself into a deep abyss of config files and how-tos that seemed to never end.  There is a huge community of folks out there willing to help, but most of their solutions were useless to me since I had no access to the server .htaccess files or anything else of consequence for that matter.  I would’ve loved to use a CF CMS that was good for a shared host environment, but I couldn’t find any and it’s way too late to start over on this now.  Anyway, word to the others who try and run Joomla w/ SEF URLs…it won’t work on GoDaddy and the support staff over there is only willing to help you into anger.  Good luck and good night.

Oh wait, since this really pissed me off and there has been a lot of talk about an open source CMS I am talking to some people about starting soemthing up.  One major thing will be to have a soultion that can be run on a shared hosting environment.  Now I am done.
