Promote Remote!
I have been working as a developer for the past 9 years and 9 years of that time has been remote. I did spend some time working in an office in northern Atlanta when I first moved down to Georgia. Now that the gas prices are going through the roof and more people have to adjust and re-adjust, it seems like the right time for companies to allow people to telecommute more a week. For a ColdFusion developer and I assume for most other web developers out there, most of the work can be done remotely. I am not necessarily advocating for a complete remote experience, more like 3 days a week. It would save on gas and personally, I get way more done when I am working out of my house. Collaboration on the 2 days that you are in the office would be more efficient if you weren’t going to be in the office for another 2 days. I think all companies should have some kind of remote working plan in place. I have a parting question as always, does anyone have an issue with the way companies have managers that manage managers that manage managers? Just curious.
